In a multilingual, technology-driven world, the role of the language educator has never been more critical, or more dynamic. This Professional Learning Session (PLS) explores how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to enhance rather than replace human expertise in language education. Drawing from field-tested workshops on interactional competence, literacy and feedback, and prompt engineering, Dr. David Chiesa will share practical, ethical, and impactful strategies for integrating AI into language teaching across languages and contexts. Participants will discover how AI can support real-time communication practice, provide targeted and culturally responsive feedback, and generate personalized learning experiences, all while maintaining the teacher’s role as “human-in-the-lead.” Attendees will leave with concrete classroom applications, critical questions for responsible use, and inspiration to innovate within their own teaching practice.
