Through an integrated-skill approach, students can develop higher motivation and confidence. In this process, reading or listening becomes a medium whereby students read to speak and read to write. The reading-to-write approach, which has been praised by researchers and practitioners, can bolster students’ engagement with reading, a skill that continues to inhibit non-native readers. Prof. Adil Bentahar, Associate Professor of ESL, will guide participants through an exploration of the tenets of this approach and learn about its impact on revitalizing language learning. They will also learn proven classroom-based activities that develop the skills and confidence MLs need for a successful transition into K-16 settings.
