Eligibility

 Any K-12 ESOL teacher in the state of Georgia. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in ESOL. Previous GATESOL Teacher of the Year recipients may not apply. You do not need a nomination to apply.  Teachers must submit an application; hit "apply" down below. 


Purpose

Georgia TESOL would like to celebrate dedicated ESOL teachers and to acknowledge their hard work in the field.  Commitment to improving practice through professional development and participation in a community of practice deserves recognition.  


Deadline for 2024-25 Award

April  26, 2024

Applicants and recipient will be notified by May 17, 2024.


Award

  • Complimentary one year membership in GATESOL

  • Complimentary registration to the annual Georgia TESOL conference

  • Profile in the Georgia TESOL newsletter 

  • Award and recognition at the Georgia TESOL conference

  • Invitation to provide spotlight presentation at the GATESOL Conference the following year

Criteria

  • At least 2 years of experience as K-12 ESOL teacher in Georgia

  • Exemplary contribution to a community of practice. The recipient demonstrates a passion for sharing their expertise (e.g. lesson plans, professional development, collaboration, etc.).  Answer the survey questions to tell us about your practice.

  • Two letters of recommendation should be emailed to grantsandawards@gatesol.org with your name and the award in the subject field (example: Jane Doe – Teacher of the Year).

  • One letter of recommendation is required from an administrator in your current school system. This recommendation should verify your years of service, highlight your use of innovative strategies and/or research based practices, and describe how you motivate others.

  • The second letter of recommendation must be from a Georgia TESOL member. This recommendation should attest to your dedication to the ESOL field. Note that the applicant does not have to be a member of Georgia TESOL.

Review Committee

The Georgia TESOL executive board members will vote in a blind review of all complete applications. The recipient will be notified at the end of September and will be invited to attend the awards recognition ceremony during the Georgia TESOL annual conference in October
